My kids are all canine, they do very similar things. I agree that they are aware of their bodies and how we perceive some of their behaviors. At the very least, they do recognize when we are paying attention to them. That is a given. I like to watch mine when they sleep and love their sleeping noises. This is my guy, Rudi Jalisco. He is very emotional and sensual for a dog. He makes the most awesome noises when he stretching and yawns, these long high pitched releases of slumber.
