There is an interaction warning using tramadol with any SSRI drug, like Zoloft, etc. This can lead to serotonin syndrome and/or seizures.

Tramadol is useful for nerve pain, and some people with PN find it useful. However, it is slow in onset to work, as it needs to be activated in the liver to its active metabolite which is the real pain reliever part. Some people have a genetic error which does not have the enzymes in the liver to do this, so tramadol does not work for those people.

Tramadol is abusable, and some people become addicted to it. However, this potential is much less than opiates.
