I have three different parents I'm helping this week.
All have been last minute calls. And two think they are the most
important thing.
The first was yesterday. And it went pretty good. Even though
her son didn't get a IEP, he will be getting what is called a Response
to Invervention plan. Which means that a team of teachers will be
watching and setting up a plan for him. THis will include a behavior
plan which is what she wanted.
The one today was a mess. But I couldn't really do what the mom wanted
originally. And then on Monday when we met the mom asked: Me if I was
going to end up being on the schools side at the meeting. I gave her the
answer that was true. That no I was on the childs. But as we all know its not
always the answers the parent wants to hear.
She was told they were working to move him to a self contained classroom, in
another building. And with the behavior reports. I understood why. And I also knew that the new principal in this building couldn't handle him. And that it looked like the TOR wasn't able or wanting to either. So it was going
to be best for him to be moved. As it turned out before the meeting she took
my advice and talked to the superintendent, and came to terms with the move. And he will move. And I think things will be better in the end. I don't think she will ever need my help again. But I didn't give her the answers she wanted. But the right one.
Now tomorrows case is a Manifestation. Over drugs. And I'm still not sure what will happen. The school is after a 1 year suspension, so we will see.
They definitely will do a 45 day alternative placement.
And he is in a Youth Center right now. No idea for how long. So I'm not
even sure how to proceed with this one.
Ugh.
