Opiates for pain, do cause sweating in some people. This may happen in between doses, when the last dose is wearing off.
Some things cause sweating and if you add them all up at one time the sweating can be profuse:
Low blood sugar
Taking NSAIDs for pain (aspirin, ibuprofen, etc)
Excessive caffeine intake
Hormone fluctuations (like menopause)
taking SSRI antidepressants

I have been getting sweats / hot flashes just before dawn. I had assumed it was menopause (i turned 52 yesterday) but it is also right before I would be waking up and taking MS Contin, so opiates would be wearing off.
You are a wealth of information mrs. D.!
