I totally disagree with your Dr's statement (granted, I'm no MD, just a dumb business major). My PM doc has done far more for me than any of the neurologists, neurosurgerons, vascular/thoracic surgeons, etc had done. He was very straightforward, and told me that OUR goals were to manage the pain, and help lead me to a solution to the problem. His approach involves physical therapy, meds, and injections; he tells me to make sure I watch what I do, how I do it. He encourages patients to bring spouses/significant others so they can give him a different perspective. In fact, he is pretty much "running point" on this- he collates reports from the other docs, shares opinions with them, etc. He is trained as a neurologist, which in this case helps. In a roundabout way, I guess I'm saying that my PM DID say "yea, you have pain," but he followed it up with "lets figure out how to manage, and ideally eliminate, the pain." Just my rambling 2 cents.
