Hi Brid,

Okay, so you have an extra wisdom tooth behind the extracted one and it too is impacted and thought to be near a bundle of nerves. It is very possible that this tooth is causing your pain. I understand the reluctance in wanting to remove it. Hopefully it will calm down.

Regarding the salt water..... start using less salt per cup of water. Use a dash or 1/8th of a tsp of salt and no more. See if that is less irritating. Salt is an excellent natural disinfectant but too much of it will cause the tissue to become inflamed and sore.

Also, it would be best to eat a nutritious diet of mostly soft foods and avoid eating foods that require a lot of chewing. This will give your jaw a rest. You may have to do this for a couple of weeks or longer. If you could "juice" fruits and vegetables that would be an excellent source of nutrition!

I know this is hard, but hang in there and try to remain positive. You could also try applying a warm moist washcloth (cover with a dry one) to the outside area of your face. This heat encourages blood to flow into that area and may reduce the discomfort. Best to do this a couple of times a day especially at night before you go to sleep.

Hope you get relief very soon!!

Surgeon didn't want to remove last wisdom tooth, saying it is sitting on nerve.
I don't smoke. I am minding the area so carefully. I use 1/2 teaspoon salt in a glass of lukewarm water 3 times a day. I find it pierces the area further. I'm so confused with the whole thing.
Oral surgeon told me last week that pain if it doesn't go is probably coming from last wisdom tooth. He things if I give my current situation time that the pain will go, he seems afraid to remove last wisdom tooth cause its on nerve, and in the mean time my own nerve is gone with the pain of the whole ordeal. Thanks for your help.
