I believe it is a combination of fear and desperation especially from family members with ill parents - and also those with sick children.

Coming to that realisation that you have to let go is heart wrenching for anyone to deal with - yet deal you must because there comes a time when letting go with a blessing, a kiss and a smile through your tears is the greatest gift you can someone you love.
