Oh, I knew about the fibro but forgot when I wrote the post. Sorry about that Deb.

You are absolutely right. Deep massage is contra-indicated and can really set things off; although you might be OK with very localized deep work of short duration. Even if your body can not tolerate that, fascial work can still be done. It just needs to be performed gradually and gently so that the superficial areas are loosened up before going deeper.
Doing it that way takes more time, but you can learn to do it for yourself and save some $$ as well as increase the frequency of treatment. More frequency with shorter duration and depth would probably be best, given the fibro and the spasticity that you are dealing with anyway.

Also worth noting is that icing of inflamed musculature can cause calcification if there is leaked blood (hematoma) in the soft tissues from injury, injections, surgery etc. Putting ice on the joint areas is OK though.
