Good luck and try not to stress over it too much. I like Bram's idea of a clothes pin on the neck, makes sense & I never thought of that.
My cats are short haired thankfully but my son used to have a long haired
"Ragdoll" & they had to shave her too.
Peroxide helps with cat scratches, hope you don't need it!
