I am trusting Dr. Greger on that somewhat, plus the knowledge that toxins are concentrated (mostly in fat tissue) as you move up in the food chain. Small fish eat algae, larger fish eat smaller fish, etc. Algae will be somewhat contaminated by whatever is in the water, but I don't believe it can be more contaminated than fish.
