Hi socasusie,
The implant crown should fit nicely at the gum line. There should not be any large noticeable gaps between the margin of the crown and the gum tissue.
The abutment may or may not be exposed at that junction. If some bone loss occurred in that area during the healing phase, the abutment may be at the same level as the margin on the crown. Your dentist would have to visually look at that area with a clinical mirror and feel it with a probe or explorer instrument to answer that question.

I'm nervous because I'm getting the lower 1st molar on the left removed next week, and implants placed there and where the 2nd molar (already removed) was. I can't afford to have complications on the right side since it's my only place left to chew.
