Hi Grandma,
I agree that you read and hear about denials that seem like they should have been approved and approvals that don't seem nearly as dire as some of the denials.
Some of these "strange" decisions are better understood when looked at through the eyes of SSA. The question is not how terrible one's affliction but how the affliction affects the ability to work.
To most of us, the decisions just seem totally arbitrary at times. Hang in there. The decision will be forthcoming. It does sometimes feel like a trial and we are awaiting the jury to come back with their verdict.
Hope you get your decision soon. We will be waiting to hear. We are waiting WITH you.
