Default NEW MEMBER small fiber neuropath

Aloha,

I am a new member, just having been diagnosed with Small Fiber Neuopath following a skin biopsy. I am a 56 year old women, a registered nurse that has worked for 35 years as an ER nurse and a Recovery room Nurse for 22 years. I have been the picture of health most of my life. Very active, a traveler, and a workaholic. my husband and I have lived and worked in Kona, Hawaii for 22 years. I am now in north county (fallbrook) california living with my sister to access medical care. I have been here 3 1/2 months and just now after many dr. visits finally got a diagnosis. I was really hoping I would just get better on my own, but that didn't happen.
My story started a little over 2 years ago when the heels of both feet became sore. It did stop work for any activity. It was always at work when i stand, which i do 80% of the time of a 10 hour shift. when i walked, sat or layed down, pain gone. Until last april 2013 when the pain started in the ball of my left foot, and also felt like i was walking on a "bubble" behind my left 2nd toe, which is very uncomfortable. I was told i had metatarsalgia and had many tests all normal. Long story short, in sept I became very nauseaous and fatigued along with the pain, could no longer work, lost 12 pounds (I was 5'8" and 130). By Nov 2013 I was so sick, We got on a plane and came to live with my Sister and her Husband. Here I am now with a Neurologist in escondido, Ca. I will be seeing him this week and want to know what questions to ask. I very much want to get completely better from this. Since being at my sisters, I'm no longer nauseous, put on 4 pounds and fatigue is slightly better. I do feel weak alot. I do very small errands, as my feet still hurt very badly. my arms and hands are also sore. My regular family practice dr here started me on gabapentin a few weeks ago and i take 200 three times a day. I have been taking supple, vit b12, d3, co q 10, vit e, alpha lipoic acid, fish oil. I dont know if its that or my diet(no sugar and decresed carbs) is what is helping me to feel a bit better. any info would be of alot of help!!
MAHALO!! Debbie
Thanks so much for listening to my story!
