Lidocaine used dentally is removed by the tissue rapidly....so it usually is combined with epinephrine to slow this metabolic process down, because the epi, constricts blood flow and hence the lidocaine stays around a bit longer.

I can't stand the procaine...it is far less numbing than the Lidocaine mixture. For a while I was getting palpitations from the lidocaine/epi type, but when I use a beta blocker before this doesn't happen for me. Now that I am on a beta blocker again, I won't have to premedicate.

There shouldn't be any amnesiac effect with lidocaine. The Benzos are the amnesiac producing drug in dental anesthesia.

My son had IV valium when he had his 4 wisdom teeth removed and he didn't remember anything!
