Cipro, Avelox, and Levaquin are all the same class of drugs and are often prescribed for UTI's. The problem is they have a "Black Box Warning" (FDA requires a warning outlined in a big black box on the package) against giving them to patients with mg because they can affect the breathing so negatively. I know because I ended up in an ambulance going to the hospital from work about 2 hours after taking levaquin which had been prescribed by a "doc in the box" (small clinic with no office hours that you can drop into at any time). Thought I just had a UTI and they could take care of it. Wrong!). My internist let me know in no uncertain terms that I was never to go to a doc in the box again - I have too many issues and if I need a doc for any reason, he is always available. He was the one who found the warning about these antibiotics. So lesson learned (after 4 days in ICU!)

Hope they find one that works for you - don't know what I finally ended up taking to clear the UTI. It was all done IV in ICU without my knowing the name.

Good luck!
