I definitely have the red ear syndrome and it was worse when my TOS was worse. As I have improved so has the red ear. Also the lobe which is the reddest part is just slightly swollen compared to the other side.
Note that I also have TMJD with my TOS.
My interpretation is that a nerve or blood vessel is pinched by spastic muscles. The solution would then be to get all your neck muscles to loosen up. Possibilities include:
- self neck massage
- warm wrap / bed buddy
- julstro
- sharon butler
- stretches, especially scalene, but make sure you can do:
- first rib mobilization (just posted a video)
- self trigger point treatment
- inversion table and/or neck traction
- somatics
- PT
- chiro
I've done most of the above. I don't have a direct fix for the ear, but when I improve my neck, everything else improves.
