I don't know what area you're in, but I have a GREAT optometrist in Pasadena, CA.

He recommends theratears, the preservative-free, single-use drops. He says that they are the most similar to our own tears.

I love them. But they are hard for me to find and a little expensive.

I also use Similasan, which my optometrist thinks is second best, but still good.

I have allergies so I use their allergy relief drop.

They are preservative-free too. That's probably the most important quality to get in an eye drop.

But you have to be careful that the bottle/dropper doesn't get dirty because the preservatives are what kill the germs so they don't get in your eyes. Which is why the theratears are disposable after one use.

The Similasan drop bottles are supposed to be thrown away after 30 days.

I recommend you see a good optometrist to make sure something else isn't going on that's causing the dryness that's causing you so much pain/discomfort. My boyfriend is a computer software engineer and he was diagnosed with blepharitis and the prescribed treatment plan that the optometrist gave him is helping to greatly reduce his discomfort.
