If you do decide to settle with WC, you should insist your attorney have Medicare approve the medical set aside amount if there is any chance that you'll need to apply for SSDI.
If you do are approved for SSDI, Medicare will cover any issues that you are unable to have included in your WC claim--and Medicare is vastly easier to deal with than WC. You would just need to budget for part B, part D and perhaps a supplement--or qualify for Medi-CAL.
