Can't say about the folic acid.
5 mg is used Rx frequently by doctors, though.
However, new information is coming out
That folic acid ( which is inactive in the body)
competes with activated methyl folate at
the blood brain barrier. So it is better to avoid folic
Form. With all the new DNA testing coming
Out there are more people being found to have
the MTHFR mutation which affects normal
methylation.
It is also not safe to use high dose folic acid
in the presence of low B12 levels. And doctors
Continue to evaluate lab results for B12
Tests wrong and not adhere to the new
low of400pg/ml (many still call 200 "normal").
Methyl folate is available as Metafolin by
Solgar at iHerb.com and on Amazon.
I think Swanson's has it generically now,
too.
