To wake up when my family does, I have to go to bed around 3am. If I go to bed when they do, I'd be up, for good, at 2am.

For me, it's a combination of my TBI messing up my REM sleep, and having to be beyond exhausted to get past my back pain.

It's miserable. Frankly, I can't understand why I haven't died or gone insane. Of course, I would probably be unaware, if the latter has occurred.
