I have never been to an ER for myself, but it certainly sounds like you need help. Bearing up under constant pain, even if moderate, really wears me down and leads to depression, which is why my husband and I try to keep on top of it, with breakthrough meds, heated blankets, and massage. You may need a much more aggressive pain management program, but the ER should be able to help you break the spiral until you can get long term help.
It is dangerous to be under this kind of stress for long- it can affect your blood pressure and cognitive abilities, and make it harder for medication to work the longer you wait. Peripheral pain can change into centralized pain which is harder to treat. Please get help ASAP.
Opiates are not always effective for neuropathic pain, but combined with an anti-seizure med like Gabapentin, and/or an anti-depressant, they are worth trying. I have had good results from MS Contin (time release morphine).
I hope that you get help soon.
