Anyone who has suffered a stroke should be investigated for Central Pain Syndrome if they have symptoms of neuropathy/neuropathic pain:

The syndrome occurs most commonly when stroke affects the thalamus or spinothalamic tracts of the midbrain, though it can also occur in a number of other conditions such as multiple sclerosis (in which it is thought responsible for the neurologic pain many experience with MS) and B12 deficiency or traumatic injury.
