That's odd that the original application wasn't used for SSI as well. Usually they include both until they determine eligibility for SSI and/or SSDI.
You didn't state when, or if, you stopped working below the SGA level ($1070 per month.)
Timeframes for each step of the process vary state by state. You should be able to find that info at SSDfacts.com.
