The more I see of things like this not only am I awed but at the same time occasionally left going...wait a second, that's not normal??? I ran track when I was much younger (though I wasn't supposed to do to shin splints, but forged parents signature on the sign-up) running as a child always seemed to great, the numbness and tingling of the legs was so much better than the pain when not running, walking sometimes hurt so much I just wanted to cry. And yeah sure when I stopped... I stopped! Down for the count, but when I could go, it felt like I could go for eternity. I always chaulked it up to stamina, and exhaustion... Like who wouldn't collapse after sprinting a mile?

Granted I got removed from track (grounded for a month too) before I could compete aside from a few competitions between local district school, well I did make it to one regional meet under the guise of a sleepover, but my mom was part of the EMTs called in to oversee the meet...busted... I ran, I won, I got dragged home by the ear, no more track for me...

Can't say I would have been better off knowing back then, none of the DMDs were out yet, but wow! Kudos to her mother for letting her do it. It is so wonderful to learn of parents who truly are willing to let their children discover their own limits or even take all life has to offer while they still can. Too many times parents end up overprotective of their "babies". Granted I had other issues than numb legs that my mother didn't even know about since I never even thought about it, so she might have been right to say "No!" But hey she did let me finish the meet too before reddening my backside and nearly piercing my ear with her fingernails
