The more training and education you have, the easier SS will assume you can transfer skills to different work. But, more importantly:

1) Do you believe you'll qualify to meet a Listed Impairment? http://www.ssa.gov/disability/profes...ders-Adult.htm

2) If not, you must try to qualify via the 5 step process, which will in all likelihood be difficult and require a lengthy fight. Social Security's standard is that you your disability is severe enough that you are unable to work above the SGA level, which is $1090 per month, doing any job, not just the type of work you've done in the past.

3) Did you receive SSI as a child?
