Melody,
Just wanted to suggest, in case they didn't, to make sure Alan does not have a bladder infection. The typical symptom, burning during urination, is not always present and therefore, is overlooked. Hopefully they took a urine sample.
UTIs are more common in the elderly and can cause widespread body aches and pains.
