It does seem likely that in many cases there is a trigger infection, that sets MG off. But not always and not always the same thing. Anything that overstresses the immune system is a possible trigger.
I agree with juliejayne, there may be causes of MG, but to date I don't think anyone has proved a direct link to the disease. I have heard lots of comments about one or another condition, that would be the cause. I hope someday that they find it.
