I put off going to the doctor and played around with an infected toe starting in February. The podiatrist said he couldn't see me for a week so I just soaked it in hot water, poured peroxide everywhere, had swollen lymph glands in the groin, fever and chills, but by the appointment I had gotten rid of the worst of it. At my follow up with another podiatrist she gave me h*** and said I belonged in the hospital on IV antibiotics when I had the fever. I am now in their system as a must see same day.
It still hasn't healed closed two months later, it was open so long it seemed to reinfect, though not as bad as the first time. I was on bactrim for a week now i am on clindamycin for two. I have learned a few lessons along the way, one of which is that no weight bearing means just that. Every time I get a small amount of new skin it rips right back open unless I am very careful and wear the ridiculous, seven pound boot. With my poor balance it basically means stay on the sofa or in bed. Driving me crazy.
