Clicking is the tendons moving I believe. Snapping/clicking.

This is less serious and many people have it.

Grinding/crunching sounds are called crepitus, and indicate arthritis in some people.. this is typically a more serious sign

I have this in my knees.
Mrs D, I think its the tendons wigging out too. It isn't in the joints. My joints (since this happened to me) do crack a lot and I do have the crepitus in my knees. It sounds awful.

This isn't what Im trying to explain in my fingers though. It isn't just one or two little crack sounds or feelings. It goes through all fingers when engaging those little muscles to hold them straight. They just make repetitive clicking sounds. It doesn't hurt, so its not the same as the little electric shocks I get. Its really hard to explain.
