Hello sloth,
I believe you are referring to what is known as a Quad Cane. I've never used one, but I have seen Physical Therapists prescribe them. I don't believe they are much heavier in weight than a regular cane.
I would suggest a session with either a Physical Therapist or a Physiatrist. They will be able to analyze your gait and recommend which type of cane would be best suited for you.
Do you think your Neurologist would be willing to make a referral to either a PT or a Physiatrist? I'm sure your insurance would defray the majority of the cost of one visit should they recommend a visit with someone.
