Medical marijuana if it's available to you. I too searched for something to use as needed, since my episodes of severe pain don't happen every day. The pain comes on suddenly, and MMJ in the form of vapor or tincture makes it go away within a few minutes. Fortunately my bad pains are at night and the MMJ also helps me get right to sleep. I had to do some experimentation to find a strain with the right balance of the non-psychotropic element, CBD.
