Healthgirl, thanks for those links.

There is increasing evidence that differences in the kinds of bacteria which live in the gut (the gut microbiome) are causally linked to many physical and mental health issues.

My impression is that this is still at the "basic science" stage - ie, people are still trying to work out the details.

Depending on how the details turn out, procedures which change the gut microbiome could well be beneficial.
