Default HPV and cancer

I found out about two months ago that I have HPV (human papilloma virus). I had a hysterectomy in 1997 and was told I didn't need pap smears anymore. WRONG! I had type A dysplasia on my cervix years ago and had it removed in 1990. I wasn't told I should continue having paps even after the hysterectomy. I was sent to an OG/GYN specialist who did a biopsy of my vagina and she called this morning with the results. The scale is 1, 2, 3, cancer. Mine is a high 3. Now I have to see an OB/GYN Oncologist and Cancer Care Northwest. As far as I have gathered they will try to laser off the cells that have been growing. Worst case scenario, they will have to remove my vagina. I want all of you women to be diligent in getting your pap smears! Also, get your kids (boys and girls) vaccinated for HPV. I am still in shock from this and cannot believe what has happened. Don't let this happen to you!
