Those people who already have compromise to nerves from some systemic cause do tend to be more prone to compressive effects and the symptoms generated can be "more than the sum of the parts". People with diabetic neuropathy, for example, seem more prone to carpal or tarsal tunnel effects and have higher rates of symptomatic spinal radiculopathy (nerve root compression).
