Neuromas in the foot are fairly common...they arise from chronic compression of nerves in the foot from too narrow shoes.

Neuromas also arise from a genetic disease called Neurofibromatosis I and II. This is diagnosed with DNA testing.

Have you tried to ice this aggravated nerve? Usually ice works.
If it is only on the outer calf, refrain from crossing your legs while sitting. Avoid kneeling, or any other compressions around the knee.
