I developed IBS late in college (stress and horrible diet), but really haven't had significant problems since. Under times of extreme stress, it might act up.
I'm having a really bad time of it right now, and I'm not sure why. Yes, my stress is high, but certainly not higher than last year when my SFN was terrible. I was actually in a nice wane when this started.
I've opted to go down to Baltimore to a really well-respected gastro to see if he might know of any connection between the two. I'll let you know.
