Glad to see ear plugs recommended.

Also, shampooing your hair can cause a lot of neck strain. I had to learn to be more protective of my neck by tensing my neck muscles so I did not twist and pull at my neck. It made a big difference for me. Also, a massage with my palms against me head and my fingers working the shampoo is helpful.

Toweling your hair after also needs to be done carefully.

I've been there. It can be done without stressing the neck.
