My TBI was classified moderate to severe, and I still have occasional mild vertigo going on nearly 5 years after my injury. I've just learned to make adjustments like standing still a few seconds after getting up from bed or a chair, and it only lasts a few seconds.

You are likely making things worse by worrying over it. If it's mild and you aren't a fall risk, just take things slow and try to adjust. Yours is likely to continue to improve, 5 months is not very long in the TBI recovery world. If you are seeing a PT or physiatrist this would be good to ask them about as well.

In the scheme of things it sounds as if you are otherwise making good progress. Celebrate progress made and see if that lessens your feelings of "immensely distracting and worrisome" which is probably exacerbating the vertigo symptoms.

Best to you.

What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition.

Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I am grateful to be alive and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life.
