Target sells some quality slides, with a nice supportive base, for a low price.

I bought this one in the women's size...and I am wearing this one as I type.

and this one which is adjustable across the instep (my really sore point)..

I don't know if they have any left now though...but it is something to think about.

I can't wear flip flops with the thingey in the big toe ...they hurt and drive me nuts.

If your slide type is adjustable, you can wear thin socks with them too. I find this type allows for exercising the calves and they don't hurt my instep either.
