I would try memory foam insoles.
I have memory foam area rugs in my bathroom to help to cushion between my feet and the floor. It helps so much!

I had found a site where they add another 1/4 to the depth of shoes in order to allow for thicker insoles. I have since lost the link to the site. Will keep looking.
