I have heard that statins lower enzyme CoQ10 and in some people can damage the muscles, including the heart muscles. But that would be a direct effect on the muscles and not on the nerves (as far as I know). Now the symptoms that most people on this thread are talking about last a long time, so it looks like here we are talking about something very different. I haven't looked at a list of the recognized side-effects of statins, but maybe the symptoms that your husband experienced are listed there. If they are not, then it might be that there is a vary small number of people that due to their genetic makeup respond differently to these drugs. As far as I know, even those side-effects already recognized affect a small percentage of those taking the medication.
