My vote is for moving it around in whatever fashion doesn't seem to make it worse. I have found for myself, that for some reason motor input or other sensory input can sometimes alter the pain. The nerves need other information to process. Give them some! Just make it gentle.

If weightbearing is too painful, you can try anything in the water, stationary bike or even just bicycle in the air, ankle pumps and circles, etc. I wonder if you are getting more sensation because nerves have less pressure on them?
