Hi,

Sorry to hear you have MG. It's a challenge for sure.

Your neuro is doing well with the prednisone. It must be started slowly to keep it from aggravating the MG. It may take a few weeks to improve. It's a shame you were not prescribed mestinon, which works fast to temporarily relieve symptoms. Perhaps give him a call about that.

The swallowing and managing saliva issues are potentially very serious. It doesn't take much from that point to impact respiratory function. I would not recommend using Mucinex, either. If you get where you cannot swallow your saliva, it is an emergency, and you need to seek help. Be very careful with eating. Slow down and try not to talk and eat simultaneously when you are having trouble. Make sure your SO knows how to do the Heimlich and learn how to do it on yourself as well. I've benefitted from that twice myself.

As for the thymectomy, it is a crapshoot whether it will help or not. If you explore minimally invasive options, you will find that the recovery is not that bad.

I hope you get into the specialist soon. Keep bugging your neuro's office about that referral, especially in light of your worsening symptoms.

Good luck.
