Default SCS with Paddle lead. How long is recovery?

Hello all! I am new to the forum.
I just had surgery to implant a spinal cord stimulator with the paddle type lead I had a SCS with regular leads put in almost 2 years ago but it never worked correctly, never charged correctly, had an antibiotic resistant staph infection.
With all the problems I never used it. Even though Medtronic said it was MRI approved I couldn't get anyone to do an MRI. So in May 2015 I had the Medtronic unit removed.
Last week I had. St. Jude Paddle lead implanted. They kept me in the hospital overnight for IV pain control. I should have stayed a second night but my husband was worried about the cost.
Has anyone out there had the paddle implanted using laminectomies? I am still in sooo much pain. Is this normal?
