As far as pain and almost instant relief, vaping is the preferred method. It doesn't last as long, but then again if you don't like the feeling it is gone faster than other methods. Tinctures are often ethanol base, being straight alcohol and that irritated my neuropathy. There's also some with a glycerine base. Anything you ingest will take longer to feel and will stay in your system longer.

I would suggest doing some research before your appointment on Tuesday. There are so many different strains for different results. And of course everyone is different so what works for one person may not for you. I bought the book "Cannabis Pharmacy: The Practical Guide to Medical Marijuana" by Michael Backes which has tons of useful information on the subject.
I second everything Pinkynose said. I've been vaping MMJ for almost a year and it takes away my PN pain immediately. Vaping from an oil cartridge is my preference although probably the most expensive; vaping dried herb is my second choice. You may have to experiment with different strains to get the right combination of effects for you. Your doctor may be able to give you suggestions that are locally available. The website leafly.com has detailed information on the attributes of various strains.
