Along with the rheumy appt, you might try finding a chiro / PT/clinic that uses low level laser therapy, also called soft laser/ cold laser.

I had repetitive motion injuries (elbow, wrist, shoulder, neck & various bursa pain at times) plantar fasciitis, and some low back/ hip pain.
My chiro used the laser on each of those painful spots and it was instant relief for me.
I did still need adjustments for posture & therapy for muscle spasms, but for those specific sore spots and the foot really were amazing how quick the laser helped.

He also adjusted on my foot and did some other positional /massage/stretching treatment as well as suggesting arch supports.
He also used ultrasound and IF stim and some massage/trigger point therapy.
