Deep brain stimulation surgery for Parkinson’s disease patients linked to suicide
November 28, 2015 6:00am

QUEENSLAND mum Julie Bury attempted suicide and experienced a radical personality change after doctors implanted electrodes in her brain to control her Parkinson’s disease.
NSW dental prosthetist Kenneth Mawby took his own life after the same surgery turned him from a gentle, mild mannered man into someone who was impulsive and paranoid.
Mr Mawby became totally manic, he smashed the car twice, he didn’t sleep for six weeks, he ran way from the hospital, he got into bed with another patient, at night he tried to climb the walls and doors, he’d write on toilet rolls all night long and he swore at his wife, says his widow Cherie Mawby.
