This is a very complete monograph on niacin:

http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/mic/vitamins/niacin

Niacin is used in high doses as a "drug" to lower cholesterol.
As such it has a risk potential for causing liver damage.

The flush from niacin can be very unpleasant (burning and tingling all over the body). The other forms of it, nicotinamide, or inositol hexanicotinate do not cause the flush.

Niacin deficiency is described by the 3 D's. Dermatitis, Dementia, and Death.

Niacin is depleted by birth control pills, and long term use of most antibiotics.
