Default Beta blocker to reduce anxiety

A while ago I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. My anxious thoughts were generally based around my head injury, but I also have pretty severe test anxiety. I am now in university, and have to do a long oral presentation once every couple of weeks. Unfortunately my anxiety causes very discomforting physical symptoms, which do not allow me to present.

I spoke to a family friend, whom is a MD, and they recommended a low dose beta blocker (propranolol). I was wondering if this is a safe treatment, and what opinions you have regarding it.

I would have posted this in anxiety forums, but I value the insight of individuals who are also struggling with PCS, because we are often affected by medications different than the majority.

I appreciate any responses.
