I get mine from yawning. If I'm not paying attention and yawn without tensing my body, something moves and presses on something and sets off that cascade you described.

I've tried to describe them as burners or stingers (which sports med docs understand) and even spoke to neurosurgeon about them, but everyone blows it off like it's a minor musculoskeletal issue. Just once I'd like to see them have a crazy attack like that and tell me it's minor.
